ITINERARY

Day 1 US/BEIJING
Take an international flight from the US to Beijing, China. Meals and snacks will be served on the plane. Movies will also be available during the flight.

Day 2 BEIJING
Upon arrival in Beijing, you will be met and transferred to your hotel by our tour guide. For those arriving in Beijing earlier today, you may spend the rest of the day for leisure or join in the optional tours in Beijing.

Day 3 BEIJING (AB, L, SD)
Today you will visit Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the largest and most intact conglomeration of ancient structures of the imperial palace. This was the palace for 24 Ming and Qing Dynasty emperors who ruled China for over 500 years. Take a photo stop at the National Center for the Performing Arts, also known as the National Grand Theatre, designed by the French architect Paul Andreu. You will also tour the Summer Palace, the famous resort of Empress Dowager Ci Xi. Feast your eyes on the Long Corridor, Longevity Hill, and Kunming Lake. If time permits, you may also have the opportunity to see pandas at Beijing Zoo located nearby the Summer Palace. Attend a welcome Peking Duck Dinner tonight.

Day 4 BEIJING/ ZHANGJIAJIE (AB, D)
Enjoy most of the day for leisure or take optional tours in Beijing before transfer to the airport for your flight to Zhangjiajie, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most unique destinations in China. Upon arrival at the airport in Zhanjiajie, you will be met by the tour guide and transferred to the hotel (40 min. drive) for check in. The rest of day is free at your leisure.

Day 5 ZHANGJIAJIE (AB, L, D)
After breakfast, you will drive to the beautiful old Phoenix Town (4.5 hour drive). As a national historic and cultural town, Phoenix Town maintains its ancient feel stunningly. The architecture has kept its ancient style, and the grey stone streets and wood towers are all well-preserved. The highlight of the journey is a cruise on Tuojiang River. End the night with a stroll on the ancient streets in the town at your leisure.

Day 6 ZHANGJIAJIE (AB, L, D)
In the morning you will depart for Tianmen Mountain (15 min. drive). From its terminus near the downtown rail station, the world’s longest mountain cable car ferries you five miles to Tianman’s summit. Below, the Highway to Heaven makes 99 serpentine turns heading up the mountain toward Tianmen Cave, the natural mountain-penetrating Karst cave with the highest elevation in the world. Carefully engineered Gui Gu Plank Road and the transparent Glass Plank Road, dubbed “Walk of Faith,” affords magnificent views of surrounding mist-covered sandstone pillars and gorges.

In the afternoon, discover the natural wonders of Baofeng Lake (15 min. drive). The lake and the area immediately surrounding it offer pristine natural scenery. Located high in the mountains, the lake catches some of the first and purest runoff water from the mountain peaks. Baofeng Lake is bordered by lush green trees and shrub-clad stone peaks of various shapes that enclose the lake and give it a fairytale-like atmosphere.

Day 7 ZHANGJIAJIE (AB, L, D)
After breakfast, you will ascend Tianzi Mountain (40 minute drive) by cable car. Mt. Tianzi is noted for its peak forest, cloud sea, and sunrise. Enjoy splendid vistas of bizarre rock formations, precipitous cliffs, misty clouds and cascading waterfalls. Against the backdrop of the sunset, the Tianzi Mountain cable transports you down where you can enjoy the Ten-mile-Gallery of sights by a cable train. There are many highlights including some lofty peaks such as Herb Picking Old Man and Three Sisters Peaks.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Wulinyuan Scenic Area, (50 min. drive). Adventure starts at Bailong Elevator, the tallest elevator reaching a height of 326 meters. It takes 1.58 seconds to transport tourists from the bottom to the Yuanjiajie top exhibiting unbelievable and fantastic views. Yuanjiajie Nature Reserve is essentially a large, shrub-and-tree-clad, platform-like block-and-obelisk landscape with a hollowed-out valley floor, with a pristine mountain stream running through it, at its center. In James Cameron’s 2009 film “Avatar”, its mist-wreathed mountains were the inspiration for Hallelujah Mountain in the fairytale world of Pandora.

Day 8 ZHANGJIAJIE/CHANGSHA/CHENGDU (AB, L, D)
In the morning you will sightsee the beauty of Golden Whip Stream where you will be doom to be awed by attractions along the way. Continue drive to Changsha Airport for your flight to Chengdu. Upon arrival in Chengdu, if time permits, you will visit the Temple of Marquis Wu in memory of Zhu Ge Liang, the famous strategist during the Three Kingdoms period. Enjoy the authentic Sichuan cuisine dinner, followed by Sichuan Opera tonight.

Day 9 CHENGDU/LASA (AB, L, D)
This morning you will visit the Panda Breeding Base to watch pandas of different ages, before taking a flight to Lhasa in the afternoon. Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet, is often referred to as the “City of Sunshine” with more than 3000 hours of sunshine annually. The rest of the day will be free for your leisure and adapting yourself to the high elevation.

Day 10 LHASA (AB, L, D)
The tour today will cover the Potala Palace, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You will also visit Johkang Lamasery and stroll along the bustling Barkhor Street in Lhasa filled with various local handicrafts.

Day 11 LHASA (AB, L, D)
You will visit Norbulinka, the summer palace for Dalai Lama followed by the Tibet Museum. You may also call upon a Tibetan family to take a glimpse of the local residents’ daily life.

Day 12 LHASA/SHANGHAI (AB, L)
Today you will take a flight to Shanghai, which is China’s largest city (home to 20 million people) and also China’s principal port on a deep estuary of the Yangtze River. Often regarded as “the Paris of the East,” Shanghai has retained the flavor of its past European influences. Take arrival transfer in Shanghai. Enjoy the rest of the day for leisure or take the optional tours in Shanghai, depending on your arrival time in Shanghai.

Day 13 SHANGHAI (AB, L, SD)
The excursion today takes you to the Bund- a waterfront area that showcases many landmark buildings of western style built in the early 20th century, the bustling Nanjing Road, Chenghuangmiao Old Town, and Tianzifang, an old neighborhood with hidden alleyways full of boutiques and art galleries. You will also visit the well-known Shanghai Museum of Art and History, which ranks among the great museums of the world. Attend a farewell dinner celebration of Shanghai cuisine in the evening, followed by an optional cruise on Huangpu River to enjoy a fascinating night view of Shanghai.

Day 14 SHANGHAI/US (AB)
After breakfast you will take a departure transfer to the airport for the flight back home.
