ITINERARY

Day 1
Travel: Arrive Beijing, English-speaking Guided Transfer to Hotel

  • Welcome to China! Upon arrival in Beijing, China’s capital city and cultural hub, meet your guide and driver and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2
Cities: Beijing with English Speaking Guide
Highlights: The Great Wall of China, Temple of Heaven, Sacred Way

  • Today you will see the most famous sight in China, The Great Wall. Built to defend China from the Mongols, construction first started over 2,000 years ago and ultimately the wall reached nearly 4,000 miles in length from the Shanhaiguan Pass on the east coast to the Gobi Desert in the west.
  • On to the unique Temple of Heaven, originally constructed in the fifteenth century. The circular Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is constructed from wood without the use of a single nail. You will have opportunity to mingle with local people undertaking exercises and spiritual activities at this popular site.
  • Stop by to take a walk through the Sacred Way. Representing the ‘road leading to heaven’, necropolises from imperial times were usually lead to by a ‘Sacred Way’ or ‘Divine Road.’ Visit this Sacred Way, the best preserved in China.

Day 3
Cities: Beijing with English Speaking Guide
Highlights: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Summer Palace

  • Travel back in time as you tour the bustling Tiananmen Square before entering the Forbidden City. Marvel at the incredible royal treasures, ancient relics and historic art while lingering over the ornate opulence of the ancient court.
  • This afternoon, visit the beautiful Summer Palace. The palace was famously commissioned by the last empress who diverted so much money to building the site that she bankrupted the Navy. This UNESCO World heritage site is considered a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. Take in the natural landscape of hills and Kunming Lake as well as the wealth of pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges.

Day 4
Travel: Fly to Zhangjiajie, English-speaking guided transfer hotel to airport, then airport to hotel
Cities: Zhangjiajie with English-speaking guide
Highlights: Arrival in Zhangjiajie

  • Fly to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Zhangjiajie. With its breathtaking scenery, this is a photographer’s dream.

Day 5
Cities: Zhangjiajie with English-speaking guide
Highlights: Tianzhi Mountain, 10 mile Gallery, Rock Pillar

  • This morning, prepare to be awed by the amazing scenery of Zhangjiajie National Park. Visit Tianzi Mountain, named after Xiang Dakun who led the local farmers’ revolt and called himself Tianzi—the Son of Heaven.
  • At the foot of Tianzhi Mountain is the Ten-mile Gallery. Along both sides of the river, several peaks resembling real life scenes gives the impression of an outdoor sculpture showroom- a truly amazing experience.
  • From atop the Rock Pillar, you get a full view of the scenery which inspired the movie Avatar.

Day 6
Cities: Zhangjiajie with English-speaking guide
Highlights: Huanglong Cave, Baofeng Lake Cruise

  • Today, enter Huanglong Cave, also known as Maze Underground. Enter through a wall of mist, wandering through corridors and caves within caves, admiring the stalactites and stalagmites, underground waterfalls and stones in varying shapes resembling real world objects.
  • Take a cruise on the crystal clear Baofeng Lake, surrounded by mountains, villages and maybe even spot a monkey!

Day 7
Travel: Fly to Shanghai
Cities: Zhangjiajie, Shanghai
Highlights: Tianmen Cave, Arrival in Shanghai
Meals: B, L

  • Today, the highest altitude cave in the world, Tianmen Cave. Surrounded by mist, the ever changing sceneries gives the feeling of a fairytale land.
  • Transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.

Day 8
Cities: Shanghai
Highlights: Yu Garden, Old Town, Nanjing Road, Shanghai Museum
Meals: B, L

  • Start the day with a tour through the Old Town to the Yu Gardens, a well-preserved example of a traditional Chinese garden. Here you will see how the trees, buildings and water features are designed to blend in perfect harmony.
  • Walk along Nanjing Road, the ‘5th Avenue’ of Shanghai.
  • Visit the superb antiquities and fine arts of the Shanghai Museum, which houses over 120,000 pieces of bronze, coins, jade, ceramics, paintings and calligraphy.

Day 9
Cities: Shanghai
Highlights: Tianzifang, Xintiandi, the Bund, Huangpu River Cruise
Meals: B, L

  • Visit Tianzifang, China’s art district. Among the new and modern buildings in Shanghai, this area is an excellent view of the special architecture of the old Shanghai. Stroll throught the art galleries and many craft shops, cafes and boutiques.
  • Tour the Xintiandi neighborhood, a historic part of the city. Xintiandi was a dilapidated strip of Shikumen buildings until a decade ago, when the film star Jackie Chan purchased and restored them. Today the area boasts a number of delightful cafes, restaurants and designer stores.
  • Walk along the picturesque waterfront of the colonial Bund, the original ‘Wall Street’ of Shanghai.
  • In the evening, enjoy a cruise on the panoramic Huangpu River, where the historic Bund and the futuristic Pudong come face-to-face.

Day 10
Travel: Departure from China, English-speaking guided transfer from hotel to airport
